We get it. It can feel a little awkward approaching the topic of STI testing with partners. Here are a few tips and reminders to help get the topic on table:
The best time to talk about std testing with a partner is before you become sexually active with one another (yes, including oral!).
Getting test whenever you have a new partner is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of STDs.
The conversation may be uncomfortable at first, but your health is worth protecting.
Remember, anyone who is sexually active can get an STD.
Questions to ask your partner(s):
Do you know if you have any STDs?
When was the last time you were tested for STDs?
Do you usually use condoms and/or dental dams?
Have you ever shared needles with someone for tattoos, piercings, or shooting drugs? (You can get some STDs like HIV this way, and then they can be passed to partners during sex.)
Have you had any STDs before? Which ones? Did you get them treated?
